Virtual Reality Simulator
The Pomona Police Department is one of the first local law enforcement agencies in the nation to receive a virtual reality training simulator, the Virtual Reality Decision & Tactics (VR-DT). The purpose of using the VR-DT is to help enhance an officer’s decision-making skills in terms of use of force. The system uses the latest fully immersive VR technology for training de-escalation of force in a wide variety of critical, real-world situations. The system combines state-of-the-art hardware which offers our officers multiple training scenarios. A variety of officer equipment can be used with the system, including simulated pistols, rifles, TASERs, OC sprays, and flashlights.

The Pomona Police Department has 2 certified in-house racial profiling instructors. While staff has attended this course in previous years, recently Dispatch Supervisor Kendra and Cpl. Gutierrez completed a 24-hour racial profiling course taught by the Museum of Tolerance. The course highlighted key issues and concepts relevant to race and ethnicity in the United States. Kendra and Cpl. Gutierrez will continue to apply what they learned in-class to educate our officers and professional staff about the importance of understanding and respecting racial and cultural differences.
