Purpose

The Pomona Police Department Chaplains are dedicated to providing for the spiritual, moral and personal need of the Department personnel and their families.

Responsibilities

1. Respond to the needs of Department employee during times of death injury or emotional distress.
2. Provide spiritual support and guidance to employees upon request.
3. Assist Department officials in making notifications to families of Officers receiving serious injury or upon death of a Department employee.
4. Be available to Department employees and their families when requested in times of personal stress and or crises.
5. Participate in ride-a-longs in order to become acquainted with the stressors experienced by Department Officers in the performance of their duties.
6. Assist the Department, when requested in providing comfort and support to members of the community during times of emotional trauma (i.e. the aftermath of violent crimes, death notifications, etc.) as a means of alleviating pressure on Department employees.
7. Maintain an influence / presence that fosters the highest ethical conduct among employees.
8. Foster public confidence and support by attending civic events and other periods of heightened public interest.
9. Serve as a resource for crisis intervention and other forms of counseling to the citizens of the community when requested to do so by the Department.
10. To provide an additional dimension and optional personnel resource for the Department regarding community based policing.

Law Enforcement Chaplain’s Duties

An on-staff trained Biblical Law Enforcement Chaplain can be an invaluable source of service in the following areas at no charge to Law Enforcement Agencies:

Upon specific invitation by Chief of Police, the Chaplain can:

• Participate in ceremonial functions or represent the Chief of Police at civic events, awards events, promotions, or weddings.
• Participate in shooting review boards, oral interview boards, or other internal administrative functions.
• Officiate or otherwise participate in funerals as requested.
• Represent the Department at Line-of-Duty funerals statewide.
• Provide Biblical guidance and advice in a confidential setting for Officers or their family members in order to reduce stress, deal with personal needs or problems, or to provide support in a time of family crisis (physical, emotional, or spiritual).
• Be available to offer support and comfort when an officer is sick, injured, or killed; conduct Critical Incident Stress Debriefings at the request of administration or individual officers.
