Under the provisions of the City's Donation Policy for Catastrophic Illness, employees may donate leave accruals to an eligible City employee who has exhausted his/her accrued leave credits. Donated leave credits will be used to cover the employees absence due to a catastrophic illness or injury of an immediate family member or the employee's own serious health condition which results in the employee being required to take time off from work for an extended period.

Immediate Family Members include the following:

• employee's spouse
• registered domestic partner
• children
• step children
• foster children
• parents

Maximum Donated Time

• Recipients may receive a maximum of 1,000 hours of leave donation in any twelve (12) month period.

Time Donated

• Donating employees must donate a minimum of eight (8) hours of sick leave, vacation, executive leave and/or compensatory time leave. Donor's own accruals may not be reduced below 300 hours.
• Donor information shall remain confidential.
• Employees who are separating from City service are permitted to donate thirty (30) days prior to their date of voluntary resignation. Otherwise, employees who are separating are not eligible to donate.

Salary and Benefits

• You will continue collecting a salary while you receive donated time.
• The City will continue paying for your benefits while you receive donated time.
• If donations are no longer available, you will revert to a Leave of Absence without Pay status and your benefits will end on the last day of the month following the last pay period you received donated time. Employees who wish to continue coverage will be responsible for paying the full premiums for those plans they wish to continue.
• Human Resources will provide you with all the necessary paperwork or you can download the Direct Payment Authorization Form.
