Youth Music Program
Pomona Youth Music Program is a FREE music program available to youth and teens.
Space for each class within Pomona Youth Music Program is limited; therefore, a strict attendance policy will be implemented.
Participants will learn the basics of playing piano: note reading, proper technique, and basic repertoire. Electric Pianos and books are available during class only.
No previous experience is required.

Participants will learn the basics of playing guitar: fingering, chords, strumming, and accompanying. Guitars and books are available.
No previous experience is required.

Participants will continue to study the basics of playing guitar: fingering, chords, strumming and accompanying several songs Guitars and books are available.
Beginning Guitar level 1 or previous experience is required. See instructor.

Participants will study and master the main harmonic sequences in all major and minor keys, as well as the most common strumming patterns in different meter signatures. Guitars and books are available.
Beginning Guitar Level II or similar is required. Please see instructor.
Classes held at Mendoza Elementary - Room 2

Participants will learn the basic skill needed to play classical guitar, such as a proper grip, posture, technique, fingering and note reading.
Beginning/intermediate guitar or similar experience is recommended. See instructor. Books and instruments are available.
Classes held at Mendoza Elementary - Room 2

Participants will learn the basic technique and skills needed to play the snare and to read basic music notation.
No previous experience is required. Instruments and books are available for practice during lessons.
Classes held at Mendoza Elementary - Room 3

Participants will learn, study and, master their assigned music scores to be able to participate in the weekly orchestra rehearsals. Participants will also continue to practice playing other percussion instruments learned in previous levels.
Previous percussion levels and approval from instructor are required. Interested students with previous experience who have not gone through our music program must talk to our instructor.

Participants will learn, study and master their assigned music scores to be able to participate in the weekly orchestra rehearsals.
Three years of previous band and music reading skills are required. Interested students with previous experience who have not gone through our music program must see our instructor. Instruments, music scores and books are available for practice during lessons.

Instrumental music and vocal music participants ages 13-17 will study, learn, and perform several arrangements of popular songs from Latin America. Participants must have at least 3 years of experience in either band (woodwind, brass, percussion), orchestra (violin, viola, cello, bass), or choir (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), and must be able to read music.
Participants may provide their own instruments. There are some instruments available that may be borrowed upon request.
Rehearsals will take place on Fridays at Philadelphia Park Community Center
(700 E. Philadelphia Street)
