A central part of the Office of Violence Prevention’s gun violence reduction effort is the Peacemaker Fellowship (PF). The PF is an 18-month intensive intervention focused on shooters and would-be shooters in the City of Pomona. Office of Violence Prevention (OVP) employ Neighborhood Change Agents who bring invaluable lived experiences and insights to the forefront. Serving as credible messengers within their communities, these Change Agents play a pivotal role in identifying and enrolling individuals directly involved in gun violence or those at heightened risk of such involvement into our transformative Peacemaker Fellowship program. This collaborative effort, harnessing the wisdom and connections of Neighborhood Change Agents, forms a vital component of our strategy to break the cycle of violence and catalyze profound transformations within the communities we serve.

Participants accepted into the Peacemaker Fellowship embark on an intensive 18-month journey aimed at guiding them towards meaningful life changes and redirection. The program's structure is designed to provide participants with the tools and support needed to break free from the cycle of violence and pave the way for brighter futures. Throughout the Fellowship, participants benefit from five daily mentorship contacts every day including weekends, facilitating continuous guidance and encouragement.

Central to the program are the seven touchpoints that fellows are required to engage with. These are; the development of a personalized Life Management Action Plan (LifeMAP) in collaboration with a dedicated Neighborhood Change Agent, five daily check-ins, case management for the various social services provided, transformational travel to areas outside of their neighborhood, Elder’s Circle mentorships, and opportunities for job training and possible internships. Together, the fellow and the case manager identify and articulate specific life goals, fostering a sense of purpose and direction. In addition to mentorship and goal-setting, participants actively engage in weekly life skills classes and social services appointments, addressing various aspects of personal development and well-being. The fellowship equips participants with practical skills and experiences to empower their journey towards transformation. To recognize and incentivize significant progress made towards their LifeMAP goals, participants receive milestone allowances. Through these structured components, the Peacemaker Fellowship provides a holistic and supportive environment for individuals to chart new paths in their lives and contribute positively to our community.
